The top 3 current diets on the market

The Top 3 Current Diets on the Market

Looking to lose weight but feeling a bit overwhelmed by the amount of diet choices that are out there? Of all the diets that are floating around in the universe right now, we’ll explore the top three diets and talk about what works, what doesn’t, and how they can help you lose weight.

Diet #1: The Nutrisystem Diet

In this diet plan, men and women both have a choice of four different plans each, ranging from “basic” to “silver” (for those over 65), a diabetic plan, and a vegetarian plan (or you can create your own 28 day menu plan). Each day, you choose a breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert to eat. If you do choose to buy their meal plan (which they strongly encourage) you can get away with eating for as little as $11 a day, and you aren’t stuck counting carbohydrates or calories.

PROS: Nutrisystem does offer a fairly good variety of foods in each of their diet plans. If you pay close attention to the meals that they send, you can start to visually remember how much you are supposed to eat with each meal (portion control). There are also some freebies you can get with the Nutrisystem plan, such as an online community support group and free weight loss trackers.

CONS: Unless you really are paying attention to what you’re eating if you buy their meal plan, you will be at a loss when you are cooking and trying to practice “portion control” at meal times on your own. Many also argue that, despite some saying that they feel full after 3 meals and a dessert, that they are actually left feeling “starved” and wanting more. This diet plan can also cost you a pretty penny, so don’t jump into their meal plan without budgeting appropriately.

Diet #2: P90X

P90X always catches my eye as the advertisements always seem to feature topless men packed with muscles. It incorporates both a 3-phase nutrition plan and fitness regime that focuses on “confusing” one’s muscles to capitalize on the work out.

PROS: Many will attest to the fact that P90X will have you dropping those extra pounds quickly. Subscribing to the P90X diet plan also offers you several benefits, such as the previously mentioned 3-phase nutrition plan, specialized supplements, comprehensive fitness guides, online support groups, and a calendar that will help you track your progress.

CONS: P90X may be good in the short term, but working out for hours in the gym isn’t sustainable for most people. The price to use this system can also run pretty high, particularly as with a little bit of research and dedication you too can look up appropriate foods to eat and fitness regimes that will help you “get ripped” as their website promises.

Diet #3: Eating Right and Moving Regularly

This is based on the dietary and exercise information that you have been taught throughout your entire life. Drink plenty of fluids, eat your 5 to 10 fruits and vegetables each day, get some protein in there and keep your body moving!

PROS: This diet is one that we are all very familiar with and is the foundation for all current diets out there. It is nutritious, promises to keep your body in tip-top shape, and is very sustainable. There are also no subscription fees and plenty of online support if you look around online and also support in your community.

CONS: As with sticking to any diet plan, you have to be dedicated and make time to be proactively healthier. Finding an exercise you enjoy and want to take part in may be difficult; it is up to you to find an exercise that you will like and stick to it since there is no set plan “telling” you what to do. Eating right and exercising regularly may also not have you dropping 20-50 pounds over a short span of time as many of the “fad” diet plans offer. Expect to drop no more than 5 pounds per month.

Then again, there’s that saying about “slow and steady” always winning the race...
